BEARS Term 4 Training and Social Competition
For Term 4, we are doing 4 weeks training and 4 weeks social competition for a total of 8 weeks. The intent for this combined program is to ensure that all the learning from the training sessions are applied in a game scenario on top of the regular game days with coaching and officiating.
First 4 weeks will be for training and learning offensive and defensive plays: 13 Oct, 20 Oct, 27 Oct, 3 Nov
Next 5 weeks will be for social competition: 10 Nov, 17 Nov, 24 Nov, 1 Dec, 8 Dec
U18 Boys, U17 Boys, U16 Boys, U15 Boys, will train from 1:00PM to 3:30PM.
U14 Boys, U13 Boys will train from 3:30PM to 5:00PM
U12 Boys, U11 Boys will train from 5:00PM to 6:00PM
Social competition starting week 5 will be from 1PM to 6PM.
MISSION & VISION
Bears Basketball Social Competition is organised to provide a venue for young basketball lovers to play in a friendly but competitive league. We take pride in knowing that players are exhibiting the values of RESPECT and SPORTSMANSHIP inside and outside the court. We are collectively supportive to see players continuously improve their talent and enjoy the sport we all love by applying what they have learned in training to actual social or competitive games.
COMPETITION FORMAT
- Players registered for the Term 4 training automatically joins the social competition
- Teams will be formed/balanced into several combined age groups
- Running time, 2 halves of 15 minutes each
- Week 5 to 8: Round games
- Week 9: Finals (top 2 teams play for Gold)
- Competition points (applicable to the round games)
- Win = 3 points
- Draw = 2 points
- Loss = 1 point
- In the event of a tie in competition points, the rankings will be determined using the total points calculated as follows: Total points won – Total points loss = Total points difference. Rankings will be based on the highest total points difference.
GAME RULES
Bears Basketball follows all FIBA approved rules with the exceptions of some specific rules outlined below.
- All games are played on Sundays between 1:00PM to 6:00PM.
- Depending on the number of teams we are able to form, all teams will have a game every Sunday.
- All games will have one (1) to two (2) official referee(s) depending on availability.

Games are played in two (2) halves with 15 minutes each half.

There is a 1-minute half time break.

Each half is on running time.

Teams are allowed 1 time-out (1 minute duration) per half.

Coaches will be responsible for calling substitutions and ensuring fair amount of playing time for each player in the team.

NO Overtime – If the score is even at the end of the second half (during eliminations and finals), both teams will be doing a free throw battle to determine the winner.
TEAM LIST
The coaches will try to balance the teams considering combined skills and experience based on player registrations for the social competition. Each team will be assigned a coach for the whole term. Position of players are not absolute and each player should take on any position when asked by the coaches. Teams will have between 6-8 players depending on the total number of registrations. Team List will be released a week before the start of the competition.
UNIFORM

All players should wear their Bears reversible jersey.

A team will be assigned a light or dark side each week.

Jerseys are compulsory and cost $85 per set (top and shorts).
- Player who already have the current Bears reversible jersey do not need to purchase a new set.
- Order a new set in this page if you don't have one yet or you need a bigger size.
FILL-INS
- Fill-ins are allowed if the team has only 4 players playing on a given week.
- If the team has only 4 players, they can get 1 fill-in
- If the team has 3 players, they can get a maximum of 2 fill-ins
- Fill-ins should be coordinated at least 2 days before the scheduled game.
- Players can also come from the players who are casually attending the Sundays training who can be subs/fill-ins
LATE START
- A team can only start a game with at least 3 players on the court.
- If a team is running late, a penalty of 2 points will be applied to the overall game score for every 3 minutes from when the game was supposed to start.
- A team with less than 3 players is declared incomplete and forfeits the game. If 5 minutes has passed from the supposed start time and a team does not have at least 3 players, the game will be declared a forfeit (the team will lose three competition points).
PERSONAL FOULS & TECHNICAL FOULS
- A player who has committed 5 fouls will be asked by the Bench/Scorers/Duty team to leave the game immediately.
- 8th and subsequent team fouls per half time will incur bonus free throws (2 tries).
- Offensive fouls do not count as team fouls.
- A player who gets a 1st Technical foul will be asked to sit out for 3 minutes.
- Technical foul - one (1) free throw and ball possession based on the last play
- Unsportsmanlike foul – two (2) free throws and ball possession based on the last play
- Technical and Unsportsmanlike fouls will be counted as personal and team fouls.
- A player will be disqualified to play in the match when any of the following is committed:
- Two (2) Technical fouls
- Two (2) Unsportsmanlike fouls
- One (1) Technical foul and one (1) Unsportsmanlike foul
- A player will be suspended on the next game if he incurred 2 Technical fouls in one (1) game.
BENCH DUTIES
- A parent from each team playing must participate in bench duties each game.
- The teams playing will need to provide one (1) parent each to perform either of the following:
- Scoresheet
- Time and score board
- Parents on the bench must inform the officials and teams playing the match of the following:
- When to enter the court after a one (1) minute time-out and one (1) minute half time break
- Timeouts and substitutions (while on running time)
- Players with 4 and 5 Personal fouls
- Awarding of ball possession (with the use of the arrow)
By registering to the Team 4 training, the player automatically joins the Term 4 social competition starting in week 5 (10 Nov).
Cost of joining the 9 weeks program for Term 4 is $250 per player.
Training and social games will be held every Sundays during Term 4 between 1PM to 6PM at Dural Recreation Centre.
